I have been a practitioner of yoga and meditation for over 30 years, beginning with Hatha Yoga in the 70s and then 9 years ago experiencing my first Kundalini Yoga class. I have experienced first-hand the transformative power of yoga…emotionally, physically and spiritually. It simply changed my life.
Through my practice as a Reiki Master and Reflexologist, I saw more and more clients coming to me with stress-related conditions. I would talk with them about the benefits of yoga and meditation. Many had never tried it, were interested, but felt uncomfortable about walking into a studio. The general perception was that yoga was for flexible thin people and that meditation meant completely stopping their thoughts, which was an impossible idea to them. It was obvious that education was needed.
After my husband, Tom, and I finished our teacher training programs for Kundalini Yoga, we both felt a calling to do something for the benefit of our community. Looking at our strengths, as teachers of yoga and meditation, a yoga studio seemed the most logical way to go. We knew the perfect place would find us.
After three years of searching, we found a home in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. We poured our hearts and souls into preparing the space for our students. It was beautiful, and we loved it. After three years, however, we knew it was time to look for another home that would provide more parking and greater flexibility with programming. We were fortunate to find a property right next door! After months of renovation to a circa 1800 post and beam structure, we now have an amazing home with ample parking, two studios, and handicapped access. It really is lovely and peaceful…a beautiful gathering place to meet new people while learning the tools to meet the stresses of day-to-day life with grace and courage.
Please come and make Tenth Gate your home away from home. We look forward to sharing the ancient wisdom of yoga and meditation with you.
